Henniker Directional Drilling was formed as a sister company to Contoocook Artesian Well Co., Inc., a
third-generation family business in Henniker, New Hampshire. The well company has been drilling through the
state's rocky soils for 65 years.
Founders Jeff Martin and Rick Patenaude saw directional drilling as a complement to the well company's
services. Throughout New England, directional drilling is in demand to make utility connections and road
crossings for the growing commercial and housing markets. Directional drilling helps preserve the region's
established road infrastructure and is often the best option to keep traffic moving.

Henniker Directional Drilling (HDD) was founded in 2001 as a sister company to Contoocook Well Co. Inc., a Henniker, NH,
residential water well drilling company. Holding NH Water Well Drilling license #1, Contoocook Artesian Well is operated by
third generation family owner Rick Patenaude.

:: Company Vision ::
Jeff Martin and Rick Patenaude, founders of Henniker Directional Drilling, shared a vision: that underground drilling --
whether horizontal or vertical – would be the means more often for bringing water, cable, sewer, electricity, and other utilities
to homes and businesses. It would succeed in New England because there would be no need to rip up established roads and
expensive infrastructure.
:: Field Experience ::
Martin worked at Ingersoll Rand for 15 years, bringing an expertise to HDD that influences the tools the crews choose and use
in the field. Martin is known for successfully completing challenging projects others have been reluctant to accept. He has
been involved in specialized drilling projects since 1986 with Ingersoll Rand, Versa Drill, and Atlas Copco thru 2008.
Henniker Directional drilling has completed bores 2800 feet in length, up to 30” pipe and in rock and soil conditions.

Pipe
- Types of pipe: HDPE; steel; ductile iron; PVC
- Pipe sizes: 1-inch to 30-inch diameter pipe. Pipe can also be bored in bundles.
- Pipe length: Any distance to 3,000 feet.
- Fusions: Butt fusion and electrofusion for the joining of HDPE
